Our Mission & Vision

At East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church (ESUMC), our mission is to love Jesus Christ and to share His love with everyone – in East Stroudsburg, Pa., in the Pocono Mountains and around the world.

We’re a family of believers committed to serving and blessing others. From overseas missions and disaster relief care, to our medical supply closet and the free community meals served right here in our church kitchen; ESUMC strives to imitate the incredible love of Jesus Christ by following his example and having a servant’s heart.

Our vision is to be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives.

At ESUMC, when we talk about transformation we’re talking about the continual change Christ Jesus is making in the hearts, minds and lives of His followers. As Christians, we embrace transformation as part our ongoing faith journey, and hold fast to Paul’s encouragement in Philippians 1:6: “I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Our Core Values & Beliefs

God the Father

He is the loving, sovereign God who created the world and all that is in it. [ John 1:1-3 ]

Jesus Christ
He is the Son of God begotten of the Father who came to the Earth born of a virgin, was crucified, died, buried, and rose again in order to save us from our sins. He invites everyone to believe in Him that they may also have eternal life and a personal relationship with Him everyday. He will come again to rule on Earth and to judge the living and the dead. [ John 10:28-30 ]
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God living in us. He comforts, guides, protects, convicts, and awakens us to God’s power, revealing truth to all who believe. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to live lives of obedience to God’s Holy Word. [ John 3: 6-8 ]
The Trinity
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; each is divine, but they are one God. [ Matthew 28:19 & 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 ]
The Bible
The Bible is the Holy Word of God and is the primary source of authority and guidance for faith and life. [ 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 ]
Discipleship
We are called to be followers of Jesus Christ and to encourage one another in our walk with Him. We are also commanded to share His message with others, in our church, in our community, and throughout the world. [ Matthew 26: 26-2 ]
Spiritual Gifting
Every member of the body of Christ is given spiritual gifts to be used in service to the Kingdom of God. [ 1 Peter 2:9 & 1 Corinthians 12:13-31 ]
Service
We embrace the command of Christ to love and serve one another. [ John 13:14 ]
Spiritual Growth
We are committed to our personal growth in our relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and encourage others to grow as well. [ 2 Peter 3:18 ]
Commitment to Prayer
Prayer, in all of its forms, is our lifeline to God. [ 1 Timothy 2:1 ]
Worship as a LifeStyle
Worship is a way of life reflected in the manner in which we conduct our lives, demonstrating the love of Jesus in all we think, do, and say. Romans 12: 1-2
Grace
Because God loved us so much and is rich in His mercy towards us, we are saved from our sins and given eternal life though the blood of Jesus Christ. We are called to extend the same grace God has given us to others, and to humbly serve Him and others with joy and gladness in our hearts. [ Ephesians 2:4-9 ]
